This month we add several blacklists to our repository of domains: The unified hosts’ files of Steven Black.

Steven Black hosts files are known Host files you can use to overwrite your /etc/hosts file in your computer to avoid your naming services to resolve malware, adware, fake news, porn, gambling and social hostnames. It’s up to the user to decide what kind of blacklist want to use.

These are the different lists available:

SBLACK-HOSTS-DOMAINS blacklist

This repository consolidates several reputable hosts files and merges them into a unified hosts file with duplicates removed. A variety of tailored hosts files are provided. This blacklist is the unified host file that contains adware and malware domains. The domains of this list can be considered harmful.

This blacklist updates every day and has an average of 57.000 domains.

SBLACK-HOSTS-FAKENEWS-DOMAINS blacklist

This repository consolidates several reputable hosts files and merges them into a unified hosts file with duplicates removed. A variety of tailored hosts files are provided. This blacklist is the unified host file that contains adware, malware, and fake news domains. You should not enable by default this list if you don’t want to mark as abusers some media sites.

This blacklist updates every day and has an average of 650 domains.

SBLACK-HOSTS-GAMBLING-DOMAINS blacklist

This repository consolidates several reputable hosts files and merges them into a unified hosts file with duplicates removed. A variety of tailored hosts files are provided. This blacklist is the unified host file that contains adware, malware, and gambling domains. You should not enable by default this list if you don’t want to mark as abusers some gambling and online casino sites.

This blacklist updates every day and has an average of 1.600 domains.

SBLACK-HOSTS-PORN-DOMAINS blacklist

This repository consolidates several reputable hosts files and merges them into a unified hosts file with duplicates removed. A variety of tailored hosts files are provided. This blacklist is the unified host file that contains adware, malware, and porn domains. You should not enable by default this list if you don’t want to mark as abusers some porn and sex sites.

This blacklist updates every day and has an average of 10.000 domains.

SBLACK-HOSTS-SOCIAL-DOMAINS blacklist

This repository consolidates several reputable hosts files and merges them into a unified hosts file with duplicates removed. A variety of tailored hosts files are provided. This blacklist is the unified host file that contains adware, malware, and social domains. You should not enable by default this list if you don’t want to mark as abusers some popular social sites like Facebook, Twitter… Use carefully.

This blacklist updates every day and has an average of 1.200 domains.

How to enable these new lists

If you are new to Apility.io and you have not signed up yet (it’s free!), then you don’t need to do anything since these lists are enabled by default with all new accounts. If you already have an Apility.io account, then you have to log into the Dashboard, go to Blacklists to enable and disable the lists individually.

Apility.io deselect Free Mail

As an example in the animated GIF above we are enabling Freemail blacklists. You should do the same with your favourite lists in the domains tab.
